Fresh Faces for Intersexions Season ll

South Africa has a new pool of acting talent. Award winning TV drama series, Intersexions ll which launches on 12th February 2013, will feature more than a hundred new actors and actresses that were cast, including five new and fresh faces chosen from more than 5000 budding actors and actresses who turned up for the open auditions in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban auditions.
"Acting is an incredibly specialized craft which can take years of training and experience to perfect but talent can sometimes come in the form of the X factor and we found a lot of passionate auditionees in every city," said Rolie Nikiwe, the series' creative director.

He said the fresh talent includes many first time directors and scriptwriters who brought fresh perspectives to the production.
Intersexions is a collaborative partnership between Johns Hopkins Health and Education in SA (JHHESA), SABC Education, SABC 1 and produced by Quizzical Pictures, Ants Multimedia and CADRE. The new series is jointlyfunded by USAID/JHU HIV Communication Programme, PEPFAR and the Department of Trade and Industry, Intersexions explores the often unmentionable issues on HIV Aids, love, sex and relationships.

Nikiwe said programmes like Intersexions play a huge role in unearthing new talent especially given the incredible success the first series had experienced with South African audiences.

"Intersexions has the unique structure of individual episodes which allow us to travel and explore many cities, lifestyles and backgrounds within our provinces. The open auditions was an opportunity to engage with the audiences, discover new talent and involve them in the series stories to reflect the authenticity of the series characters as real South Africans," she said.
Richard Delate, JHHESA managing director said the team had spent time researching and exploring via focus groups people's issues on relationships and HIV to come up with compelling new storylines which the actors had successfully brought to life.

"Intersexions ll is once again a puzzle of twists and turns which link up in surprising ways and the many fresh faces add new energy and vibrance to the episodic drama. The new season takes risks and pushes boundaries on how society views HIV and Aids," Delate said.

The Intersexions audition process had various stages of judging which were overseen by panels comprised of actors, directors, drama professors and theatre television professionals from cities across the country. Industry professionals included Noxee Maqashalala, Thato Molamu, Sdumo Mtshali, Winne Modise, Kgomotso Christopher, Wandile Molebatsi, June van Merch and Tina Jaxa. The final cast was selected by Nikiwe, episode directors and SABC representatives.

The series was a nationwide success and won multiple local and international awards and the same is expected of season ll.
There are five new cast members from the open auditions playing lead roles; Amanda Mbatha, Lwazi Mthembu, Ncibijana Madlala, Phila Madlingozi and Zola Nombona.
